Life-size gray whale made out of sand

I had a great time whale watching this weekend! Okay, so maybe it wasn’t whale watching exactly…I had the chance to see a life-size Pacific gray whale made out of sand at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s Whale Fiesta. And this sand sculpture was very accurate. As you can see in the photo this gray whale had the characteristic barnacles riding on top and instead of a dorsal fin it had several  dorsal knuckles along its back creating the dorsal ridge. There was also a very realistic life-size gray whale calf.

Life-size whales made of sand, now that’s something you don’t see everyday! It was pretty darn cool.
