Feed the right wolf

October 11, 2011 by Carolyn Kraft 1 Comment

First, I should clarify by saying, you should never feed wild animals and wild wolves are no exception. But the title of this post is a way of introducing a parable I was lucky enough to read and just had to share.

Every week, a new quote is posted in the break room of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, and recently it was this parable:

The good wolf

An old Cherokee told his grandson,

“My son, there is a battle between

two wolves inside us all.

One is evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed,

resentment, inferiority, lies & ego.

The other is good. It is joy, peace, love,

hope, humility, kindness, empathy & truth.”

The boy thought about it and asked,

“Grandfather, which wolf wins?”

The old man quietly replied,

“The one you feed.”

The bad wolf

I’m sure many people have already heard this one, but it was a first for me and I just love it!

For anyone on a personal growth quest, this is a great parable to keep handy if you are ever tempted to feed the wrong wolf.

By focusing energy on what’s good, we all win, including the right wolf.
